Newsletter Guidelines

About the Windy City Knitting Guild Newsletter

The WCKG Newsletter is written by members for members. It is published on a monthly basis, and mailed to all current members. We also make back issues of the newsletter available to members via our website.

Who may submit articles

Any WCKG member can submit articles, and all members are strongly encouraged to contribute. Chicagoland knit shop owners are also welcome to submit their shop news on a monthly basis (see Shop News below).

Article format & How to submit articles

All authors should proof and edit their articles prior to submission. Articles should be formatted exactly as they are to appear in the newsletter and include an appropriate title and byline. The Newsletter Editor will not make changes to content after it has been submitted, unless required due to space constraints. Articles may be submitted via email to newsletter@windycityknittingguild.com.  The article can be in the body of the email, or it can be sent as a Word, .txt or .rtf attachment.

Deadline for Submissions

The deadline for all newsletter submissions is at 5:00 pm on the Monday after the monthly Guild meeting.

What we like to publish

We love reviews of books, software, shops, websites, and products for knitters. We like articles that describe knitting techniques or tips. We love to know what knitting events are happening in the Chicago area, whether it’s a knitting-themed play or a fiber fair. If you’ve attended a knitting event recently or have a story about your adventures in knitting, tell us about it!

What we don’t like to publish

We don’t publish copyrighted material, unless the submitter has received permission to do so from the original author. This includes material taken directly from other newsletters, websites, or any other published source. If you want to submit information but it’s copyrighted, either get permission from the author to reprint it, or write about it in your own words and provide a reference to the original source.

Advertisements

The WCKG Newsletter does not accept advertisements.

Shop News

Independent yarn stores in the Chicagoland area may submit shop news for inclusion in the newsletter. The news should be no more than 5-6 sentences, and should be submitted with the exact wording and format that the shop owner wants it to appear in. Shop news should be emailed to newsletter@windycityknittingguild.com.
