Member Biography: Sharon Zolno

When did you first start knitting/why?

I was taught to knit as a teenager, probably around 15.

Who taught you to knit?

My mother.

What style of knitting do you practice?

English/American style.

What projects are you working on now?

I’m primarily making vests.

What is your very favorite yarn?

I like cotton like yarns and any yarn that I can use a size 5 of larger needle.

What is the best thing you ever knit?

I made a sweater for my niece when she was a baby and a sweater for my son when he was little.

Why do you like to knit?

I like the feeling of accomplishment when I done and I like to give what I made as a gift.

When do you knit?

At home, in the evenings usually.

What is your favorite part of the knitting process?

When it’s finished.

How long have you been knitting?

On and off for about 20 or so years.

Do you engage in other Fiber Arts?

I taught myself to crochet left-handed. When I decided to learn, there were no books available so I took a mirror and redrew the instructions so I could use my left hand. I’ve also hooked rugs and wall hangings, and done macramé.
