Member Biography: Nicole Galvan
When did you first start knitting/why?
Four or five years ago. I've always been into arts and crafts, and kept passing by a yarn shop that was calling my name.
Who taught you to knit?
Knitters Niche (American) and Arcadia Knitting (Continental).
Do you knit English/American style, German/Continental style, backwards? Left-handed? Eastern cross method? Peruvian-style? please describe.
I first learned to knit American style, but it felt awkward and I couldn't maintain tension, which stressed me out; then I tried Continental and the light bulb flipped on.
Do you have a knitting philosophy, and what is it. What helped you form your philosophy?
No philosophy really ? I love all the different possibilities with knitting; one can literally create ANYTHING with yarn and needles, which to me is very exciting.
Have you ever taught someone to knit?
I've attempted to recruit my sister, a crocheter, unsuccessfully.
What is your very favorite knitting book and why?
No favorite, I love each and every one in my library.
What projects are you working on now?
Oddly, none. I'm preparing for Vivian Hoxbro's Marimekko poncho and the slate is temporarily clean.
What is your very favorite yarn?
Manos del Uruguay. Yum!
What is the best thing you ever knit?
Cuff to cuff linen sweater.
What is the best thing you ever knit?
Hmm, hard to decide, many contenders.
Why do you like to knit?
I see something that I like, and then I create it ? what could be better than that?
When do you knit?
As often as possible, but mostly just on weekends.
How long have you been knitting?
Four or five years. I'm still in a scarf phase, but have completed a couple of more complex projects here and there, some successfully, some not. I learn something from each project though, so it's never a complete loss.
What do you like about our guild?
A vast and varied membership as obsessed with all things knitting as I am.
Do you engage in other Fiber Arts?
No way, there's room in my heart for only one!
