Member Biography: Melinda Mitrovic
When did you first start knitting/why?
September 2004. Knitting a scarf was on my Top 50 Things To Do list.
Who taught you to knit?
I taught myself.
What style of knitting do you practice?
English but would like to learn Continental.
Have you ever taught someone to knit?
Yes, I taught my niece when she was 9 years old.
What projects are you working on now?
I am learning to knit socks.
What is the best thing you ever knit?
My first scarf, since I couldn't believe I was able to do it.
What is the worst thing you ever knit?
It was a felted knitting bag. The pattern was recommended to me by an experience knitter. She thought it was easy to knit up. I was challenged with the slits for the straps and the I-cord bind off. I was so happy to complete one I-cord strap and only to find out I needed another one. I had a lint mess in the washing machine since the bag came out of the pillow case I was washing it in. On a high note, after 9 months of working on (and off) the bag it turned out great.
Why do you like to knit?
It's a great feeling to finish a project and put it to use.
When do you knit?
Anytime & anywhere.
What is your favorite part of the knitting process?
Picking out a new project and yarn.
How long have you been knitting?
Since fall 2004.
Do you engage in other Fiber Arts?
No. I have been dabbling in making jewelry.
