Member Biography: Marsha A. Adams

When did you first start knitting/why?

I started knitting in the seventh grade after seeing my best friend knitting, but I did not become a serious knitter until around approximately 1999 when we set up a Wednesday noon handwork group at the office.

Who taught you to knit?

My best friend Eileen Foley started me off, then I continued to teach myself by knitting an entire Barbie wardrobe in 1972.

Do you knit English/American style, German/Continental style, backwards? Left-handed? Eastern cross method? Peruvian-style? please describe.

Generally I throw my yarn with my right hand, but if I am doing Faire Isle I use both hands and pick with one and throw with the other.

Do you have a knitting philosophy, and what is it. What helped you form your philosophy?

So much yarn, so many projects, so little time.  Experience.

Have you ever taught someone to knit?

Not from beginning to end, but I have often shared tips and hints with beginners and have often taught them the extreme rudimentary steps.

What is your very favorite knitting book and why?

Every knitting book is my favorite until I buy the next one.

What projects are you working on now?

What is your very favorite yarn?

Usually the yarn I am standing in line to buy at the moment

What is the best thing you ever knit?

A Norwegian Cardigan

Why do you like to knit?

The mindless repetition is soothing.

When do you knit?

On the train, during meetings, while watching TV, while visiting with friends.

What is your favorite part of the knitting process?

Planning my next project.

How long have you been knitting?

Since 1963

What do you like about our guild?

The yearly exchange of yarns for projects and the knitting workshops.

Do you engage in other Fiber Arts?

Quilting and crocheting.
